Every month (almost) our Newsletter puts the spotlight on one of our participants, a person with Parkinson’s or a care partner. Besides learning more about their lives, we hear of inspiring philosophies and refreshing perspectives.
Marty Acevedo grew up in east Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in nutrition and dietetics. She and her husband Mike, or Ace as he is often called, have been married 18 years and she is stepmother to two adult children and a ten year old grandson, Riley. Their rat terrier, Hobbes, completes their Oceanside family.
Her 32 year career at Tri City Medical Center including being the Director of Food and Nutrition, Environmental Services, and Patient Transportation. She retired in 2015 on a medical disability, Mary notes "I have yet to find myself bored" and stays busy with travel. She and Ace just returned from a ten week trip through fourteen states and six national parks. Her activities include exercise and yoga, following their favorite sport teams, and enjoying family and friends. "I'm also a pretty darn good cook."
